"Reason for Public Charity Status"
Each year for our Form 990 we have to supply information on our grantees including their "Reason for Public Charity Status" (Schedule A, Section 1 on the Form). Currently we request that information in the Grant Agreement, but it would seem to make more sense to have potential grantees provide that along with other organizational information. What do you think?

We have our grantees complete an agency profile each year. This document provides organizational information, annual budget, board lists, audited financials, and their 990. Several of them complete this right away in January so they are ready for the entire year. Other grantees wait until they are ready to apply for a grant to submit their information.
