Allow applicants to correct org information
It would be great if applicants could go in and correct their own organization's contact and EIN information.

It seems like letting applicants preview an application without registering might solve some of the problems people are having. It might also address one problem we see, which is organizations that register, start an LOI or Application probably just to see what is required, an then walk away leaving us with a bunch of junk in drafts.
I wonder if it is worth having a larger conversation around how GLM handles organizations and users at some point. It seems like the problem Mary and others described here relates to the problem I think a number of us have sorting through and merging duplicate organizations, and possibly to questions of how best to manage users who no longer work for an organization and whether to let multiple users from the same organization see their organization's grant history.

Nevill has a valid point. If duplicate records are created by different people for one organization it would be hard to distinguish which record has the correct information when we as admin go into merge the records.
At the very least it would be helpful if it was indicated on the side menu how an user could change their information. Users have no way of knowing that if they click on their name above 'log off' they can access their user information.

Unfortunately anyone in an organization can create a duplicate organization. We have to merge the multiple organizations to create a single organization. What would be great is if someone who is a new applicant gets a duplicate organization notice and/or can choose the organization they are from from a list of existing organizations. I have less trouble keeping up with existing organizations. The problem is that not everyone enters the correct information.

It would be helpful to allow applicant's to edit their organzational contact information. We have had some organization use a dummy EIN# so they could access the application. I had to go and correct later. I have spent a considerable amount of time correcting spelling errors. Maybe applicants would catch this when they reviewed their application prior to submitting.

Mary,
That helps me understand the motivation behind your question and it makes a lot more sense to me. I was wondering why applicants would be changing their EIN! Whatever we decide to do around allowing organizations to change their own information, I think we can do some others things to help alleviate the cause of the issues you describe. Thank you for taking the time to explain. It's tremendously valuable.

I was thinking of it more along the lines of practicality:
- I noticed last week that two possible applicants had registered with organization names like "appild" and "asdfasdf" - it seems like they were registering to check out the site and the application, but now their email addresses are attached to this fake organization and they can't make edits to it.
- I had an applicant add a fake EIN number (12-1234567) for his organization because the applicant didn't have the number handy and thought he could go back and fix it later.
- I've also had grant writers put their home addresses in at registration, thinking they were registering themselves, not the organization.
I'm, personally, not worried about the check because it would have to be cashed/deposited by the organization, in the end, not the individual. It just seems that the information would be more likely to be updated, and updated in a timely manner, if the applicant could go in and make these changes, rather than emailing or calling one of us to do so.

I would like to hear back from others on this suggestion. Because the organization information is so critical from a financial perspective, I believe many of our clients are more comfortable maintaining this information themselves once an organization is registered and verified.
Other thoughts? Mary, does this feel like it's not a big risk in your context? Would you have any fears about someone changing contact information and sending a check to the wrong party?
