Canadian Tax IDs
I'm wondering if Foundant has considered standardizing the Canadian Tax ID field to a consistent format. Typically it is <123456789 RR1234>.
In new applications we are receiving, some applicants only enter in the first nine digits and leave off the suffix which is often but not always <RR0001>. Others insert hyphens or spaces. It is a suggestion that should benefit all your Canadian users.

Great idea and I understand it is in process...all parts of that field are important and should be consistent.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for taking time to post a suggestion.
When you say applicants are only entering the first nine digits or entering other non-standard formats, are they doing this in response to an application question? Or are they doing this when they register and create their organization?
On the registration page, there is enforcement of a standard format for Tax IDs, both for the US and for Canada. From what I can see on the Bridgeway Foundation site, when I go through the account creation process, entering an invalid format gives the following error message:
CRA Charitable Number: Must be in 12-1234567 or 123456789RR1234 formatI did look through the database, and from what I can see, the organizations that have been created through GLM have the correct Tax ID formats.
It looks like you do have some imported data, and I noticed that some of these organizations have invalid tax id formats. We don't have quite the same level of enforcement when we import data, in part because ideally the data is correct when we get it or when it's reviewed. Obviously, it'd be nicer if we had more enforcement of the quality of imported data, but given priorities and the fact that people can customize their data and registration fields to some extent, it makes it a lower priority for us.
If you could let me know if users are entering the non-standard versions on applications, or if you agree that the problem is limited to the imported data, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
