Fuzzy Search Functionality for SmartSimple Platform
The current search functionality in SmartSimple is inflexible and does not accommodate spelling variations, spacing differences, or typos. This limitation results in:
- Users creating duplicate profiles for organizations, etc., when they cannot locate existing entries
- Increased user access management issues
- Greater administrative burden for managing and merging duplicate profiles
- Weakened compliance monitoring and controls
Implementing a fuzzy search functionality that returns approximate matches would resolve these issues by allowing the platform to accommodate:
- Spelling mistakes
- Spacing differences
- Typos and minor character variations
Benefits:
- Improved User Experience: Users can find existing records even with minor search variations
- Reduced Duplication: Fewer duplicate profiles created due to unsuccessful searches
- Lower Administrative Burden: Decreased need to manually identify and merge duplicate records
- Strengthened Compliance: Better ability to maintain effective controls and monitor policy compliance across the platform
Implementation Preference:
To avoid the regulatory overhead associated with AI adoption in some organizations, this functionality could be implemented using traditional fuzzy matching algorithms rather than AI-based solutions. However, implementing this functionality in any form would be a tremendous improvement to the platform.

I struggled with this today - remembered the person's name (and spelling) but not the fact that their last name was hyphenated. Took many variations of their name to finally find them, and very much wished for fuzzy search capabilities.
