  1. For spendable internal grants, have the ability to edit the gl revenue account instead of posting to the default. The gl expense account can be edited, but not the revenue gl account.

  2. Bank and Investment Balance (excludes pledges receivable)
Less Grants Payable (dollars already committed & likely held in checking)
Less Spendable Fund Balance (remaining dollars to be spent)

I tried to set this up using the "By Account" setting with the Endowment and Default Fund Balance accounts. Belatedly I discovered that the "Default" retained earnings were only included in the 4th quarter of each FY. This is explained in the online documentation Distributions/Set Up Types in the light blue section. Was it there when I set up Distribution Types 2 years ago? Maybe.

We could use the "Total Net Assets" setting…

  3. We round the distribution calculation the the $1.00 (rounding behavior: Normal). When an amount of.49 cents or less is calculated a transaction posts to the fund for $0.00. I know there is the option to uncheck the distribution calculation in the preview stage but we have over 1,600 funds to comb through and we have many agency funds with minimal fund balances that we keep open upon agency request.

  4. We have consolidated many fund fee types and are no longer using them. Because they have historical data we can not delete them so they still show as options when creating a new fund. It would be nice to have the ability to archive these fee types so that they no longer show up much like you can with profile types.

  5. Not all donations going to a particular fund have the same fee associated so we aren't able to set an admin fee to the fund. We'd like the ability to set fees on each donation, pledge, or promise we receive.

You can create an admin fee for each donation - here is a link to the help article: https://support.foundant.com/hc/en-us/articles/4404665389719-Fund-Fee-Types-and-Calculations. This is not available for a pledge or promise because payment is ultimately charged the fee.

  6. Could we have an admin fee type that applies a fixed dollar amount across funds based on their asset size? This would be a mixture of the current fixed fee and asset based fee.

For example, we've added a cyber security fee to help cover rising IT and cyber insurance costs. We would love to set the maximum we receive on that fee type at a certain $ amount (i.e., we want to cover $15k in increased insurance costs), and then have that $15k allocated across funds based on asset size. Right now, we do a fixed fee, but it…

  7. Could we add more than one fund to a manual fee entry? We frequently have to charge manual fees, and it would be cleaner if this could be all in one manual fee entry with different funds (like journal entries where you can add a fund).

This would help make a cleaner list of admin fees and help us to compare who got a manual fee in which quarters by just clicking on one entry that shows multiple funds (similar to system generated admin fees) vs. a manual fee entry for each fund that received a manual fee. It also…

  8. Ability to charge fees based on # of scholarship applications. There is the ability to charge based on grant but that is payment based, not application based.

  9. It would be beneficial to charge funds equitably by having a regular admin basis point fee and a per award charge that would kick in after so many grants, scholarships or vouchers are issued. This would ensure we are charging equitable fees based on administrative effort. Enableing foundations to choose the number of grants, scholarships or vouchers for 'free' before charging additional fees would allow the flexibility based on fund type. Scholarships for instance, if two grants are issued for one award, we may choose not to fee both grant instances but consider them combined for fee purposes. Currently there…

  10. We need the option to bulk update Admin Fee Types. When changing fees on various groups that previously held the same fee code, it becomes very time consuming. Without either the option to multi-select / multi - check boxes or the ability to create a custom report and bulk edit funds for fee purposes, the only method is one fund at a time by either clicking a single box or editing a fund about 500 times.

  11. It would be nice to be able to have a fund fee type of 2% of each donation received or $300 minimum annually. Right now if you select % per donation it will not give you an option of a minimum fee.

  12. We need the flexibility in the fee structure to access a fee per account versus the total of all fund assets. We have donors who allocate their funds between a cash account, pooled account and/or invested accounts. We have a different fee structure for each of these GL numbers. It would be helpful to be able to add that dimension to the fund structure. Thanks!

Within a fund fee type, there is an option on the left side menu to exclude accounts.  You could create an admin and exclude the other bank/investment accounts.

  13. We would like to be able to put in a custom date range(or end date) to calculate an admin fee on a fund. We do Fiscal Sponsorships and Special Projects that don't always end perfectly within a quarter range. Right now it assumes the last average daily balance through the end of the quarter which over states the fees. You have to manually calculate the fee if it closes mid quarter.

  14. Once a grant has been distributed, the spendable is reduced. We would love a quick visual that gives us a link to the full annual spendable by year for the fund(s).

  15. Check a box that allows sub funds balances to be grouped with main fund balance when running admin fee calculation - instead of creating and admin fee group. So that if the value of the funds together moves the total to a lesser tier. For example, if the main fund has $750,000, and the sub has $300,000 and you assess 1.5% on funds under 1 million, 1% on funds over $1 mill that the calculation combines the funds only to assess the 1%.
