allowing external sources upload documents to an application
I would love to have a mechanism for people to upload recommendation letters directly to a candidate’s application. Are there others who would like this feature automated for their grant, scholarship, or fellowship process?
We run a Fellowship program for graduate students and require recommendation letters. Currently all recommendation letters (~600 in a two week period) are emailed to an administrator at our Foundation who then has to upload the recommendation as a supplemental document to the individual candidate’s application.

Nice idea Aaron. We'll definitely keep that in mind. I guess the only con might be for larger files that might not work or be less reliable in transferring via e-mail. I was thinking of creating some kind of link in the same spirit of the e-mail idea that would take one to an interface that would allow file uploads or even an entire form of some kind. Another option would be tying this link to a particular field in the application that wasn't visible to the applicant, but just to the recipient of the link. This is a great conversation. I hope others chime in as well. I know we've had a fair number of folks ask about similar functionality!

This isn't something that we'd use at the moment but I ran into a clevor way of doing this in another SAAS system. The other system (not a grants management) let users generate email addresses that are unique to particular records. Those email addresses can then be used by others outside the system to send information that is associated with that record. The system cataloges both the content of the any emails recieved as well as any attachments in a table associated with each record.
I imagine this isn't easy to do on the back end, but it a nice way of opening the system up without forcing people who will only use it once to log in.
I'd be happy to share details if anyone wants them.
