Logic in Applications/reports
What are the chances that logic could be put into the applciations and/or reports? I would like someone to list out objectives - one per field and instead of putting in five fields when they might only need three, I'd like more fields to appear only if they are needed. Or have a question appear depending on the answer to a previous question.
Thanks!!!

Hi Chris,
This is a huge barrier for our organization as well. Having worked with other GM systems, I was very surprised when I started with Foundant that branching/logic/dynamic questions were not available. I think that many others would find this very useful and just have not thought about how to put it out there in the idea lab. This would go a LONG way in terms of reducing burden on our side (reducing the number of processes we have to build, maintain, and from which we have to pull data) and on the grantee's side (reducing confusion on which application/report to use, etc.). I very much understand that this is complicated in the background. But I do hope that this will make it's way onto your radar sooner than later, as this is the direction many of us are going as we consider integrating more complex data collection and impact evaluation into our applications and reports. I do think this is part of the draw to companies like Fluxx, CyberGrants, etc. and I would really love to see Foundant be competitive with those players as we all start digging deeper into evaluation/impact. It is also a contributor to our use of offline and alternative (Survey Monkey, Formsite, etc.) grants management means.
Respectfully,

Hi Amy and Sally,
I appreciate the suggestion and wish I could say this was higher on our priority list. While there's no doubt this would be useful feature, it will take a significant amount of time and resources to implement this, and in the near-term, there are just too many other things that provide more "bang for the buck."
A couple things to think about in regard to a feature like this ... a lot of times the specifically requested aspect of the feature might not be too hard (in this case some kind of logic to control what questions are available based on an answer to another question). However, other aspects of the feature are not considered - such as the configuration of this type of question (is it based on a numerical value or string value? what kind of comparison operators will be allowed? how are the expressions built? etc.). If not very carefully implemented, the configuration could be pretty confusing for a lot of users. Also, it has implications for how data comes out of the system - are all fields always displayed even if some aren't used, etc.?
All that said, we are aware that a number of customers would appreciate this feature and we will keep it in mind going forward. When we reach a point where this could be implemented, I'll reach out to you two and others to get more input on the types of questions I posed above.
Thanks again for the suggestion and all my best to you both for a happy and healthy 2013,
-chris

This question has been brought up by CFWNC staff. We are currently creating three processes where there could be one if we could institute logic.
