This function only works if there ticket has a price. If we have a free event (thus are using the system as a registration tool), we would still like our registrants to have the ability to make a donation.

Yes this would be awesome! Currently, if someone pays with a check for an event (purchasing a ticket and making an additional donation), we have to either process this as a profile payment (then it's not really a ticket sale) or process this as a ticket sale and a separate donation (then it's two separate till transactions). Neither way is ideal, so the option to add an additional donation just like on the public online ticket purchase page would be very helpful to us!
