Ability to turn off automatic tax receipt on a per-donor basis
Hello,
We are facing a new situation and have devised some workaround, but we would like to request a bit more flexibility within CSuite to handle this.
The short of this request is to give us a little more control over the “auto tax receipt” which currently “sends an automatic email receipt to your online and recurring donors.” We would like the ability to turn this automated email receipt OFF on a per-donor basis. Overall, it is great to be automated, but we have come across a situation where it isn’t.
We have a generous donor who setup a recurring gift to not 1, but 3 different funds. This is behavior we don't wish to discourage, and yet the notifications this donor receives are not only confusing but give the appearance the donor is being double-charged for part of it.
The donor receives 3 notifications from Stripe each month, which is expected when the gift to each of the 3 funds is processed on the recurring date. That is ok and expected.
What is unexpected is that only 1 tax receipt gets generated and emailed from CSuite/us. Our template is setup to handle gifts to multiple funds (as long as it gets processed in a single ‘profile payment’ like the system does when we manually enter a gift to 3 separate funds). This letter doesn’t generate the same way, and we have no control over how this recurring gift is actually handled in your system, so it’s been impossible to code this letter to come out correctly. Rather than showing all 3 parts of the gift, it only shows 1 portion of their monthly gift in our automatic tax receipt.
We have created a recurring gift template that can be run manually and mailed, which will generate a similar table showing the details of the multi-fund gift accurately. We put a “recurring notify” in place so that a staff member is alerted when a recurring gift is setup and knows to then generate this letter one-time and mail it for confirmation. This is a good solution to confirm the setup and give the donor some assurance that everything is correct.
For this particular donor we also finally put in place a yearly tax receipt, which we hadn’t previously utilized as no donors had expressed interest. It beautifully summarizes all of the gifts throughout the given year in a table, so the donor can see all of them in one place. That we set a reminder to run at the end of the year and get to this donor for a consolidated view of all their gifts throughout the year.
However, I would still like to clear up or help clarify the notifications the donor is receiving from us MONTHLY. The only solution I can think of in this case is if you could give us the ability to turn off the automated tax receipt on a PER DONOR basis. For this donor, they would still get the 3 automated notifications from Stripe (showing the portion donated to each fund)… but we would turn off our "automated tax receipt" that emails them this single, deceivingly incomplete letter.
Perhaps you have other ideas in the works to better handle the recurring donation notifications, but in case this hasn’t come up yet… I want to propose this possible solution.
Many thanks!
