I am checking to see if there is any progress on this idea. We would like to track our grantee site visits in GLM instead of another document. But when they cannot be exported, we have to go organization by organization to read the information. To have it on each application would be amazing also. It would be easier to track a specific project over multiple years.

Has there been any update on this? I would think they should be exportable as merge fields in merge templates, which also is not possible.

Exporting would be one way but I think you should be able to include application Administrator Comments when you run reports. That way, you'd have a list of all the applications that had issues and what they were.

Of the 3 scenarios you outlined, either the first or the third would be ideal. I'd give the first a slight edge over the third because the formatting of the print packet would be preferable to a .xls or .csv file. In either case, it certainly wouldn't be a problem that it'd be an all or nothing kind of export.

For all that I'd originally said any kind of export functionality would be great, the more that I think about it, I can't see how it'd work well (or even be that useful) as part of the data exports. At least for our purposes, the comments are very useful when we're reading up on each individual organization but wouldn't be one of the elements that we needed to look at in the aggregate.

On an only marginally related note, the one thing better than exportable comments would be comments with rich text formatting!!

Couple follow-up questions.

First, if we were to add the organization comments to the Organization print packet (and the request comments to the Request print packet), you would get all of the relevant comments in the print packet - you would not be able to select which ones you would include. Would this be acceptable?

Second, if we were to include the comments in the data exports, how do you envision them being included - one column for each comment? Or something else?

Finally, if we just added an "export comments" button on the Request and Organization Summary pages, would that be of any use? Or would it be too disconnected from the rest of the data to be of value?

Thanks for the suggestion. We've made quite a few strides in terms of improving ways to get information out of the system more easily, but as you note, we still have some work to do.

This isn't a high priority item at this point, but I will take it to our Product Team to see if it makes sense to work on as time allows.

I would like to be able to export comments (request, organization, application, follow-up) - for some reason I thought we could... and I wouldn't mind having them show up in the same field when exported to Excel. It's being able to see them all in one glance that's helpful.

Hi Chris,

I'm not sure if this should have its own thread, but I just wanted to add that it would be great to be able to export Follow-Up comments, as well. We have program officers who will make comments on the submitted reports and would like to be able to give those comments as a sort of write-up to the board members when they are considering another grant for the same applicant.

(Let me know if this needs its own thread and I'd be happy to do that.).

Thanks for the suggestion, and I'm glad you're finding the new request comments to be somewhat helpful.

One of the challenges with exporting anything that is a "multiple" instance is that there's not easy way to do this without requiring a lot of duplication, which folks also don't like. For instance, there could be N (let's say N=5) request comments .. in that case, we'd have to create 5 rows in the export for the same request ... the only difference being the comment field.

That said, I'd be very open to hearing if you had a suggestion for how to get around this. If you have any questions or comments, or if my comment here is not clear, please let me know. Thanks,

I love the new one stop shop for request comments. It's very helpful to see all the comments for one application in one place with info on who made the comment and when. It would be even more helpful if I could see all the comments for an application round in one place via an export so I know which ones I need to respond to with out opening each individually. It looks like decision comments and payment comments can be exported. Is there any possibility of making the request comments exportable?
